It all started with a poster, no kidding, an illustration known in art circles as "The Magnificent Horse" done in the 20s. I was six years old when I saw the poster, and was instantly in love with this imagined horse that seemed to me simultaneously fierce, noble, kind, and beautiful. Some forty years later, in the throes of horse shopping for a seasoned dressage schoolmaster, I was shown a young and largely untrained PRE. It was all over for me. No other breed of horse would suffice. I was tortured hunting for a PRE schoolmaster, and rapidly came to understand that PRE schoolmasters trained through Grand Prix -- that are also suitable for an adult amateur -- are just about never for sale. I began to obsessively surf the net: endless sale sites, breeder sites, importer sites - and calls. It was late one night, after putting the kids to bed, and I was surfing the net again - when I came across a new site: Kilimanjaro Ranch. I clicked on it, and couldn't believe my eyes because there in front of me was a seemingly perfect horse: Granito III. What was stranger still was that I had actually seen this horse at the World Cup, but never imagined that he might be for sale. Well, Granito is in fact the perfect horse: an elegant quick mind, a beautiful body and head, and a kind spirit (observe his soft eye). His extensive groundwork was laid by Avi Cohen of Kilimanjaro Ranch, and Avi is meticulous: Granito has beautiful ground manners - children have lead him; G is experienced on trails with long rides through the mountains and beaches of Malibu; and Granito has received intensive high school in-hand training that gives him a world class piaffe and passage. Further, Sabine Schut has worked with Granito, starting his competition training - and executing an elegant performance piece with him at Devon as well as the World Cup. Granito is the foundation of Rancho Bianco, and he is only coming nine years old.
